4 hours and all i have to show

So i am doing a gridded drawing of a photo and it took me about an hour and a half to do the grid and then to get the measurement right on the picture it has taken me a long time not to mention that i am trying to work on a more realistic image rather than the expressionist look so here is my progress during my 4 hours of class.

It is turning out rather nicely though i am happy with the progress the hair has been a real challenge but soon there will be curls update soon i promise!

2 plates and no desert

I  have started a drawing in pencil but i was drawing with a 5H so that i could erase any mistakes this time i am attempting a more realistic image. So i apologize for the pictures being so light.

I have been drawing for 30 minutes a day and i am going to attempt to start 2 more images of which i hope to finish one to have to show you.

I am using a graphing technique for this one to hopefully get a better picture with more precise measurements and proportions
Here are the different view of an hour and a half worth of work i will try to fit in more time... click the image to see it larger

Expressionism and Mixed media

What is Expressionism?

Wikipedia says :
'Expressionism' was a cultural movement, initially in poetry and painting, originating in Germany at the start of the 20th century. Its typical trait is to present the world under an utterly subjective perspective, violently distorting it to obtain an emotional effect and vividly transmit personal moods and ideas.[1][2] Expressionist artists sought to express the meaning of "being alive"[3] and emotional experience rather than physical reality.3

So i am still on an expressionism Kick i really like the style and decided to try one of my own piece so i did a sketch first with the colors i would like and sort of what the image is supposed to look like so this was my first attempt at my own expressionist piece.  What i like about expressionism it that it can be beautiful or scary!

I did a Mixed media piece:

Why Cant They See Brown Skin

It is based on beauty and just the American International Idea of Models... every where i look the idea of beauty is mainly still thin blond women some are brunettes with blond streaks but none of them have brown skin though they tan for the look of sun kissed skin.

I used scrap book paper images from Victoria Secrets Newest Sale magazine Gauche and Marker.

The theme is beautiful blond women over shadowing a very small brown skin woman with shades and a smile she is the least prominent, yet she still has a place here.

How would you classify mainstream beauty? I feel that it is still very Caucasian look. Most celebrities get plastic surgery to appeal to a wider audience & to seem less like their natural heritage and more International but what is international Beauty, if not different and Exotic??

Trial and Error

Here is ther drawing that i did the other day that i could not post I like the way it turned out if you have any suggestions let me know i am really partial to faceless people ... i think it makes it more mysterious . Like the possibilities of who they could truly be are endless!

I am getting alot better with drawing hair i love the way the mans hair turned out

this is my very loose representation of a Henri Toulouse Lautrec Piece Dans Le Lit

For class this Saturday i needed to do a still life. I had alot of cool ideas with jewlery and vases and cups. But the problem was the still life also needed to be symetrical and the ones that i had thought of to be an interesting composition after i finished setting it up the full image was no longer symetrical.  So I ended up with an Apple and two oranges.... I know fruit will be very popular for this project.

After all was said and done this is what i came up with and the drawing is good the apple is a little big and i added more green to the front of the apple (artistic license)

But here it is my piece the hair is getting really good i still need a lot of practice but i am happy with how it came out. i might do a little mor fine tuning this weekend... more shadows and definition...

DRAWING MAKES PERFECT

Ok ok so it is not a drawing a day well sue me i work 2 jobs go to school and the gym but i am trying to get better and really do some drawing in my free time. Honestly everyone has free time it is just that they dont know what they do with it. they spend thier time lounging around or pretending to do work when they are really on facebook or even watching tv instead of reading writing drawing or what ever they said they needed to make time for and honestly i feel i need to make time for all of that!

I meant to update last weekend but i felt bad because i have not been keeping up so i think what i am going to do is post every other day that is much more possible i will do a sketch or drawing and then basically ramble!

VASE AND BOTTLE FADE OUT

i like the way it turned out

But i think that i need to start drawing on my good paper instead of on news print just incase i do like it and if i do not that i will just have to live with it or start again!!

STILL LIFE BOTTLE WITHWAX,WINE BOTTLE ANTLER AND DRAWING HAND

I still need to finish this one we had 20 minutes to work on it during class and this is all i got done i know i am working on my speed but it will come to me with practice and dedication

“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan "press on" has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race”

Calvin Coolidge quotes

I read this quote the other day, and i thought to myself how true! if i work diligently i can achieve the world but if i wait for it to come to me i may never see success.!

MY ATTEMPT AT SOME EGON SCHIELE PAINTINGS
